Trivia – Classic Black Films

We are so excited for this Sunday afternoon! It will be filled with fun and knowledge at our Classic Black Films Trivia Event! This event is perfect for anyone who loves classic Black cinema and wants to test their knowledge in a friendly and competitive atmosphere.

Bring your friends, family, or come alone and make new acquaintances! It’s going to be an amazing opportunity to meet other movie lovers and engage in friendly competition. This is a 21+ event at Noir Lounge! We’ll have a special BOFG shot (yum) and proceeds go straight to us.

You might be thinking – trivia is fun, but are there prizes? Yep!

The winning team will receive a $50 AMC gift card, a $25 Marlow’s Cheesesteak gift card, a $25 Willowbeez gift card, shots on us, and you’ll each receive 50% off our new merch!

Speaking of merch – it was designed by local artist David Michael.

The art is of Oscar Micheaux, a pioneering African American filmmaker and author who lived from 1884 to 1951. He is often referred to as the “Father of Black Cinema” for his work in producing, writing, and directing over 40 feature films during a time when Black filmmakers were rare in the industry.

Micheaux founded the Micheaux Film and Book Company in 1919 and began producing films with all-Black casts and crews. His films often dealt with themes of racism, segregation, and the struggles of Black Americans in the early 20th century. Some of his most famous films include “Within Our Gates” (1920), which was a response to D.W. Griffith’s controversial film “The Birth of a Nation,” and “Body and Soul” (1925), which starred actor Paul Robeson in his first film role.

Micheaux inspires us to keep creating and pushing forward.
