Mission + Vision #
Our Mission: To provide film resources and a community for Black filmmakers in Ohio to connect, collaborate, and inspire one another to create new, high-quality films that uplift and inspire our communities.
Our Vision: To increase films created by and for Black folks, uplifting the spectrum of the Black experience in film.
Summary #
All board members are expected to advance BOFG’s mission and vision through proper organization and planning. Board members are expected to fulfill their responsibilities, are familiar with BOFG’S business plan, and attend each meeting.
Board meetings will be held quarterly with reports delivered quarterly.
General Responsibilities #
- Serve a minimum of one (1) two-year term on the Board. Eligible to serve two (2) two-year terms if re-elected.
- Attend all quarterly board meetings (1.5 hours) taking place in January, April, July, and October.
- Attend a minimum of one (1) BOFG hosted event per year.
- Board directors (except treasury/finance) must chair a committee, including the creation of a committee charter and attending monthly committee meetings (30 minutes – 1 hour).
- Make a serious commitment to participate actively in committee work.
- Stay informed about committee matters, is prepared for meetings, and reviews and comments on minutes and reports.
- Participates in the committee’s annual evaluation and planning efforts.
- Participates in the advancement of the strategic plan of BOFG (download available online) including fundraising and member recruitment.
Specific Responsibilities #
President #
The president of Black Ohio Film Group (BOFG) is an elected officer that holds the following responsibilities:
- Lead board meetings
- Create intentional agendas in collaboration with the executive director
- Sets goals and objectives for the board
- Serve as board spokesperson
- If necessary, act as executive director
Vice President #
The vice president serves as a support for the president and holds the following responsibilities:
- Fulfills duties of the president in the event of the president’s absence.
- Assume the role of president in the event that the role becomes available prior to the end of the current term until a new president is elected
Board Administrator #
The board administrator will ensure that operations run smoothly and hold the following responsibilities:
- Prepares the agenda for meetings
- Ensures that all board members have appropriate materials
- Capture meeting minutes
- Schedule meetings
Treasurer #
The treasurer helps to guide the board on making financial decisions and holds the following responsibilities:
- Reconcile bank accounts
- Provide quarterly financial reports
- Ensure tax-related documents and legal forms are properly filed
- Offer insight and guidance in areas of investment and spending
- Assist in creating an annual budget
Operations Director #
The Operations Director helps manage our programs and events and holds the following responsibilities:
- Plan activities and events with the corresponding committee
- Ensure that programs and events are aligned with BOFG’s overall mission
- Track program and event attendance
Development Director #
The Development Director helps manage our development and fundraising efforts and holds the following responsibilities:
- Co-creates a fundraising plan for the fiscal year
- Works with the corresponding committee to market the fundraising plan
- Make beneficial partnerships with appropriate organizations or people
Membership Director #
The Membership Director helps guide how we engage and recruit members and holds the following responsibilities:
- Develops a comprehensive outreach plan with the corresponding committee
- Markets BOFG to our target audience
